Here’s what we do….
The UpRise Festival ~ our annual music, multi-arts and debate event providing an essential platform for social issues to be tackled using the arts, workshops and speakers. The first UpRise festival was held in 2012 in Finsbury Park and attended by 2,500 people. UpRise 2011 was held across 14 unusual spaces in the streets of Hackney under the title ‘Community Is Home’ and UpRise 2012 was held in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium under the title ‘A Generation Inspires’.
UpRise Talks ~ our series of debate, dialogue and discussion events tackling important issues in a modern age. Talks have included a Mayoral hustings in collaboration with Channel 4 watched online by 198,000 people, and a dialogue between young people and the Metropolitan Police Service at City Hall.
UpRise Live ~ our events which feature a mix of live music, speakers and ‘discuss and debate’ areas, with a focus on social commentary and messages of Peace. Performers have included; Ashleigh Ashley, Cynikal, Hollie Cook, Imaani, Imperial Leisure, Random Impulse, United Vibrations.
Stand UpRise ~ our comedic arm providing thought-provoking and prejudice-challenging live comedy events and films. Contributing comics have included; Ava Vidal, Dan Schreiber, Dane Baptiste, Darius Davies, Gráinne Maguire, Imran Yusuf, Johnny Cochrane, Kae Kurd, Michelle de Swarte, Sara Pascoe, Tom Appleton, Tom Davis, Tony Hendriks.
UpRise Art ~ our exhibitions of challenging visual art, photography and street art. An exhibition featured at Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) and workshops have been held for the community where stories and feelings where expressed via painted works and sculptures.
UpRise Papers ~ our own essays, reports and those commissioned by forward-thinking academics and in partnership with universities and like-minded organisations.
UpRise TV ~ our channel for innovative short films and animations.
YouthVoiceLive ~ our innovative platform to link young people and decision makers in a new & fresh way, YouthVoiceLive is a collaboration between UpRise and Bite the Ballot. The first event was held at Ministry of Sound and featured politicians, DJ’s, speakers, community leaders, actors, comedians, stalls and a pop up polling booth to take new voters through the voting process.
